LEADERSHIP in quality MPM management

Leadership roles are important at several levels within an MPM Unit:

the role of the manager of the MPM unit (MPM Manager) as the leader of the unit

the role of leaders of the various MPM work teams eg. coordinator of the pound work team, coordinator of MPM office services, coordinator of PMO team 

the role of the MPM unit as a leader in the community on MPM issues

Senior executive leadership - Checklist
Ask: 

Does the MPM Manager create an environment for quality management?

Which approaches, systems and structures has the MPM Manager put in place to promote improvement and facilitate change?

Some specific questions to be considered are:

1. Does the Manager of the MPM unit create and promote an environment for quality MPM?

2. Does the Manager of the MPM unit interact with consultative bodies to promote an environment of quality in the MPM unit?

3. Does the MPM Manager ensure that the values and goals of the MPM unit are attuned to the values and goals of its parent body eg. the municipal administration?

4. Does the Manager encourage all members of the unit to aim for common MPM goals?

5. Are the efforts of the MPM Manager to create a climate of quality management evaluated? How is this done?

6. Has the MPM Manager learnt from his or her experiences and sought to improve the way the unit is managed?

Leadership throughout the MPM unit - Checklist
Ask: 

Which strategies has the MPM Manager used to involve all levels of MPM staff in quality management in their day-to-day activities?

Some specific questions to be considered are:

1. Do leaders within the MPM unit (supervisors, team leaders and project leaders) adopt quality management approaches in meetings, decision-making, communicating, planning, goal setting, and teamwork? How has this been achieved? How is this measured?

2. Has a sense of trust and ability to handle change been established amongst all members of the MPM unit?

3. How effectively is leadership cascaded through the MPM? Has the unit made any changes to improve the process?

Which ways has the MPM unit shared the experience and knowledge it has gained through using quality management approaches with the broader community?

Some specific questions to be considered are:

1. How does the MPM unit incorporate its community responsibilities into its policies and practices?

2. What risk assessment techniques are applied to actively identify and minimise any adverse effects of the MPM unitís activities on the community?

3. How is experience and knowledge gained by the MPM unit shared with the broader community?

4. How is the MPM unitís effectiveness as a leader in the community evaluated and has the unit learned from its experience as a leader?
