THE SHOWGROUNDS

Organising the show grounds is easy. All you have to do is decide on the number of pet categories you want to include and then draw a simple diagram of the showing area. For simplicity we suggest limiting the categories to four: dogs; cats; birds; and other pets (ea. Iizards or pet rocks). Checking the three-day weather forecast is also advisable. If it looks like rain is inevitable, organise an area where you can show the cats, birds and 'other pets' categories under cover. However, if it looks like being more of a downpour than a shower, it is a good idea to have an emergency arrangement under cover.

DOGS

You will probably have more dogs than any other type of pet, therefore it is important to organise their showing area first, then organise the showing of the other categories around it. The best way to show a large group of dogs is in a roped-off enclosure.

Ensure that all dogs are kept on a lead and remember to have a dish of water available for any thirsty dogs and, as a precaution, a pooper-scooper close by.

CATS

The enclosed area for dogs can also be used for judging the cats. Ensure that all cats are either on a lead or contained in a cage.

BIRDS

For this section you will need to set aside a specified area or long bench where the participants can leave their cages until judging time..

OTHER

This section will probably include a wide variety of pets including guinea pigs, rabbits, lizards, turtles, mice, fish, snails and even snakes and spiders. Ensure all pets are accommodated in a suitable container with air holes and that they are kept in an area where they can be easily guarded.

People without pets should be encouraged to participate by bringing along a different variety of pet, like a pet rock.
