
There are precautions that should be taken when buying a rabbit.
A dry, dull, harsh staring or patchy coat can be indications of ill health. However rabbits do moult, so this should be taken into consideration.
A healthy rabbit is alert. Its movement are free and easy. When resting it is relaxed. Its breathing should be even, but not shallow. The eyes should be bright and bold and there should be no discharge. The body should be free from sores and there should be no discharge from any part.
The muscles along either side of the spine should be firm and full and the rabbit should not feel 'boney'.There should be no swellings which may indicate cysts, abscesses or ruptures.
